It all started with one windy day and my friend Beth, who also had a mutual hate for the wind messing up our hair in the mornings.
I’m sure you have heard the term “Not Today Satan” lol well we decided to turn it into, “Not Today Wind”. So now every time it’s windy outside, we say to ourselves “Not Today Wind” as we step outside. Do you realize how much grumpiness this has saved us from. This instantly changed our moods when we had to walk into work on those windy days. I would say at least 99% of the time I don’t get irritated with the wind any more. Just hearing myself say that makes me chuckle. Who let’s the wind irritate their soul like that, obviously we do, or at least used to.
The truth is, we all do it. We all have that something that just makes our skin crawl, and our inner demon comes flying out of no where. We could be talking about road rage, dealing with that one rude person you have to see daily, the weather changing, traffic, lines, or the rude clerk at the gas station. There are so many situations that can upset us during our days.
No more worries though because I have solved it. I know how to stop all those moments from happening. Ok, let’s be real, maybe not all the “demon moments” but very close. Like I said earlier, like 99% of the time.
So here’s the trick, whatever it is that set’s you off, just tell yourself to say, “Not Today Grumpy Clerk,” “Not Today Traffic,” “Not Today long ass Line,” “Not Today Weather,” “Not Today Rude Jeff,” (no certain reason why I picked Jeff…. for all you Jeff’s out there.)
It’s as simple as that, if you don’t believe me then just give it a try. Prove me wrong. I promise that if you stay consistent with that train of thought and decide that you are not going to let that situation up set you anymore. It will work. Use it for so many different areas in your day. The mind is a powerful thing. Learn to change your mindset and start to believe that you are the only one that has the power to change your moods. You get to decide how happy you are. How freaking awesome is that, each of us holds that power forever and always!
“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
